Remembering the Salvation Story

BY RETELLING AND CELEBRATING

Immediately after getting out of Egypt (11:1-12:42), the Book of Exodus provides instructions for how to celebrate the story of getting out of Egypt (12:43-13:16). Every year the people of Israel were commanded to keep the Passover and Feast of the Unleavened Bread. Telling and re-telling the story of their rescue. This reveals just how prone to forget we are, even when it comes to the most important things. Even more, it reveals the goodness of our God. Because he not only redeems us, but helps us to remember it. He does so by giving us a story that comes with sacraments. Visible, tangible, experiential means to immerse ourselves in all he’s done for us. He commands his people to partake of them together and pass the story on from generation to generation.

Spring 2026 Bridge Course

PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE

This spring, we’re hosting a streamlined version of our regular fall course. Not the usual five-lane “Golden Gate Bridge,” complete with dinner and a larger volunteer team. But a two-lane “pedestrian bridge,” with coffee & dessert and a smaller volunteer crew.

But make no mistake, we’ve still got big expectations of what God will do through this 10-week exploration of the Christian faith. We’ll wrestle with the big questions of life, build relationships with our neighbors, and dive into honest conversations where all perspectives are welcomed. Click here to learn more about how it works.

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Who’s it for?

  • Anyone seeking answers

  • Anyone who isn’t sure what they believe

  • Anyone who is spiritual but not religious

  • Anyone with doubts about Christianity or wanting to investigate the Christian Faith

  • New Christians or newcomers to the church

  • Anyone who wants to “brush up” on the basics

When & where does it take place?

  • Dates: Monday, 3/16 - Monday, 5/18

  • Time: 7pm

  • Location: Hopper & Burr (202 W 4th St, Santa Ana 92701)

How can I participate?

Given the simplified approach this time, we’re purposefully limiting the amount of members who attend. We’ve already got our discussion leaders covered, so here are two ways you can get involved:

  • Bring a friend & attend with them. This is the biggest ask this spring. We’ve got everything else covered, we just need guests to welcome into the joy of Jesus.

  • Pray. Join us as we pray for boldness to extend invites. Ask God to go before us and prepare our neighbor’s hearts. Plead that he would draw our guests from death to life as we gather each Monday night from 7pm-9pm.

Youth Ministry is This Sunday

THIS SUNDAY AT 6:30PM

Youth Ministry continues this Sunday. They just started a new book that’s really quite old: The Faith: Teen Zine vol. 1. A book which walks teens through the Apostles’ Creed and connects modern readers to an ancient confession of the Christian faith. This time around they’re asking the most important question anyone could ever ask: “Who is Jesus?”

Show up this Sunday evening to find the answer that changes everything. See you at Hopper & Burr!

An Invitation Like No Other

ISAIAH 55

We're all spending our lives on something. But on Sunday we learned from Sal Valenzuela, church plant resident at Cross of Grace El Paso, that the best things are offered without money and without price. In Is 55 God throws a party. He invites those who are wasting their lives on what will never bring them life. He welcomes the poor who have nothing to contribute to the meal. He opens wide his doors to those who could never earn or afford the blessings he provides. But this seems too good to be true! How could he give all this to people like us? Because another has already paid the price. Jesus Christ has shed his precious blood to secure our seats at this table. Today, he's risen, reigning, and inviting us to come and eat the very bread of life and have our thirst quenched by living water that will truly satisfy.

Sanctity of Life Sunday

WE ARE ALL MADE IN HIS IMAGE

This Sunday, our church observed Sanctity of Life Sunday. A day established by President Reagan in January of 1984 - corresponding to the date that Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973 - to memorialize and commemorate the countless unborn lives that have been lost to abortion in our nation - a number that, since 1973, exceeds 62 million. All these years later, even with Roe now overturned, abortion remains legal in all 50 states, the issue is far from resolved, and there’s still much work to be done in the cause of protecting life.

But the reason we mark this date and take up this cause is not merely or mainly political, it’s theological. It’s because of what we believe. And what we believe is that every human being - from every language, culture, and background - is an image bearer of God. Possessing intrinsic dignity and value, deserving the equal protection of the laws of the land, and a neighbor we’ve been called to love. We don’t proclaim the sanctity of all human life because a president issued a proclamation in the 80’s, but because God has issued a proclamation in his holy word (see Gen 1:26-27, 5:1-2, 9:1-7; Ps 139:13-16). This is summed up in our Statement of Faith, section 4, paragraph 2, “Man’s Creation in God’s Image”:

God created man, male and female, in his own image as the crown of creation and the object of his special care. God directly created Adam from the dust of the earth, and Eve from Adam’s side, as the parents of the entire human race. They were created to know and glorify their Maker by trusting in his goodness and obeying his word. God gave them dominion over all creation, to fill, subdue, and steward the earth as his representatives. All human beings are likewise made in the image of God. Despite the effects of the fall on sinful humanity, all people remain God’s image bearers, capable of fellowship with him and possessing intrinsic dignity and value at every stage of life from conception to death. Redemption in Christ progressively restores fallen men and women to their true humanity as they are conformed to the image of Christ.

WE ARE CALLED TO PROCLAIM THE RIGHT TO LIFE FOR EVERY PERSON MADE IN HIS IMAGE

As image-bearers of God who have been remade in the image of Christ, we have a calling from God to promote and protect the sanctity of all human life. We encourage you to join us in the following ways:

  • Praying that God would:

    • Protect the unborn in our country by changing the hearts of men and women participating in abortions, changing unjust laws that promote abortion & passing legislation which protects the right to life

    • Pour out his mercy and grace upon those who have participated in abortions and provide them with his forgiveness in Christ

    • Provide his people with a zeal to proclaim the intrinsic dignity and value of every person at every stage of life

    • Use us to minister the gospel of Jesus Christ to those who have been caught up in the awful realities of abortion

    • Use us to foster children in crisis situations, support the efforts of foster families, and even to adopt babies who might otherwise lose their lives

  • Learning more about what the Bible has to say about the sanctity of life. Here’s a helpful resource to get you started.

  • Stewarding your involvement in the democratic process toward justice for all neighbors.

  • Getting involved with our local crisis pregnancy center, Living Well Pregnancy Centers. There are several immediate ways we could get involved:

    • Volunteer at Living Well Pregnancy Centers. There are 2 volunteer training day coming up. Click here for more details.

    • Walk for Life Fundraiser: Join/form a team and raise money as you walk for life on Saturday, March 7, 2026. You can find all the details here.

    • Join the Annual Women’s Tea on Saturday April 18,2026. Friends, mothers, and daughters are invited to this special morning, enjoying tea and hearing a special message, as Living Well raises funds to further their mission.
