***Church Update*** - Taking Steps Toward Reopening

There’s Still Much We Don’t Know. Here’s What We Do Know.

We Will “Reopen” As Soon As Possible

We’re still committed to following the direction of state and local authorities, but we have no intention of delaying our reopening as a church any longer than is necessary. We want to be together again - this much is wonderfully clear. When we do so, however, it will happen in stages and likely be a slow return to full “life as it used to be”.

Whenever We Begin To Reopen, It’s Critical That You Stay Home If You Might be Sick

No matter at what stage of reopening we are, if you begin to exhibit symptoms of illness or have come into contact with the coronavirus, do not come to church. Do not attend small group. Do not have others into your home. Especially until the coronavirus threat ends and as a general principle, if you’re sick, please stay home.

Practice Hospitality As Soon As You’re Able To

As Orange County reopens, before we’re able to meet in groups (like small groups), we’ll likely be allowed to gather “family to family” or “one person to one person”. If this becomes the case, have someone over for a backyard barbecue, while maintaining safe practices. Think of those who have experienced extreme isolation during this season. Consider inviting them over to your home as soon as it’s allowed by authorities.

Smaller Midweek Gatherings Will Likely Precede Sunday Gatherings

Smaller groups of people are likely to be allowed to be together before larger groups of people. While the state and county may offer different directives, this of course will dictate that we’re able to hold our midweek meetings prior to Sunday meetings. Listen to direction from your small group leader and pastoral team regarding if and when the first in-person small group, mens and women’s meetings will be.

Sunday Gatherings Will Resume in Stages

Our Sunday gatherings will be the slowest to return to normalcy. Hygiene policies will be implemented for a period of time. There will be implications for children’s ministry and how far you’re able to sit from one another during the service. These protocols will be meant to serve and protect you. Once it becomes clear that Sunday meetings will once again be allowed, look for more detailed communication from the pastoral team at that point in time.

Our Shared Priority Should Be Unity

See the blog post entitled “Church, Don’t Let Coronavirus Divide You”. Allow these three principles to guide your pursuit of unity in the face of differing opinions:

  1. Don’t pass judgment on the convictions of others (Romans 14:1-12)

  2. In humility, count others more significant than yourselves (Philippians 2:3-4)

  3. Keep the main things the main things (1 Corinthians 15:1-8)

Don't Let Coronavirus Divide the Church

Instead, Let’s Demonstrate The Beauty of Unity

As we wait on the edge of our seats for the slow return to normalcy and look forward to meeting in person together again, be aware that when you encounter the people you haven’t seen in months, you will encounter their opinions and perspectives on this whole situation. And they might be different from yours. How will you react when someone has a different take on whether or not you should wear a face mask? Whether or not we should keep social distancing? On how well our government has led us? How we respond to one another can either strengthen or threaten the our unity in Christ.

Take a moment to read this article published on the Gospel Coalition to learn how you can participate in being a part of strengthening our unity once we’re able to to be together again.

Test Everything Against What You Know Is God's Voice

You’re Being Barraged With Information

You and I and everyone else have an innate desire to know. During this season of crisis, that desire is oftentimes intensified. But in a world and in a time when information is more abundant and available for immediate access than ever before, where do you go for the best information?

Know Which Information is the Best Information

Since God is the origin and source of truth, we need to limit our information diet as much as possible to whatever comes from Him. In this week’s message from 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22, we discover that God speaks through the men and women around you who are filled with His Spirit. We need to listen for God’s voice in them. However, we would all do well to constantly test everything, including social media and the news, against what we know beyond a shadow of a doubt is God’s voice.

Listen to this week’s sermon here.

Pray for Your Friends and Neighbors

CONTINUE TO SEND US YOUR PRAYER REQUESTS

Thank you for responding and sending them. We’re so used to knowing one another’s needs through experiencing regular fellowship. We talk to one another on Sunday morning. We share life together at small group. We host one another in our homes. We can’t do any of that right now. It’s important to know, however, how to pray for one another and to ask the Lord to guide us, sustain us and encourage us each individually in this season. Here are the prayer requests from this past week (anonymity is maintained):

  1. Pray for job opportunities and interviews for Sandi as she seeks to be able to financially provide for herself.

  2. Continue to pray for healing for Krista as she navigates through a returning health issue.

  3. Praise the Lord - The parents of the Erkelens have found a place to live- thank you for your prayers!

  4. Praise God for the provision of a new Sunday meeting space

  5. Pray for the leaders of the church as they navigate how and when to best return to meeting in person

KEEP SENDING PRAYER REQUESTS TO PRAYERS@SOVGRACESANTAANA.ORG.

***BIG NEWS*** Our New Sunday Meeting Location!

We’re Indebted To Heninger Elementary For Being Our Home For 2 1/2 Years

Since the Lord founded Sovereign Grace Church of Santa Ana in November of 2017, we have met every Sunday morning at Heninger Elementary School on the southwest end of Downtown Santa Ana. They have been the best kind of community partners. We could hardly be more grateful for that school and its administration.

But then a pandemic happened. The ensuing lockdown created an uncertainty that still looms over schools as meeting locations for groups of any size going into summer and fall of 2020.

A New Sunday Home on the Northeast End of Downtown Santa Ana

But just as is always the case, God knew. And He guided us at just the right time to some brand new friends at the Ebell Club of Santa Ana, a beautiful and historic venue built in 1924 right across the parking lot from Hidden House Coffee. Once we’re able to safely meet again in person, this is where we’ll be singing, fellowshipping, hearing God’s Word, taking communion together, baptizing people and enjoying God’s grace TOGETHER.

More Info to Come

We’re sure you have lots and lots of questions. In the next few weeks, we’ll answer a lot of them. But for now, we simply wanted to give you the opportunity to celebrate the good news.

To learn more about the Ebell you can go to their website here or look at some pictures of the venue on Yelp here.

How Grateful Are We For Moms? Watch This Video.

The strength, humility, selflessness and godliness of the mothers in our midst remains constant for those in their care both in adversity and peace. The tumult of a pandemic only highlights how needful we are of maternal comfort. Though we could spend hours and even days singing praises to the Lord for His grace at work in you, we’ve produced a short video to express how grateful we are for you.

Check out the video here.
