A Dedicated Place For Nursing Mothers

Through conversations with our wonderful contacts at the Santa Ana Unified School District, Mollie and Mary (take a moment to praise God for the gift that these two ladies have been to us), we’ve arranged to have a second classroom reserved every Sunday for nursing mothers to both experience privacy and to, at the same time, listen to the sermon. We’ll pipe the sermon into the nursing mother’s room every Sunday that it’s needed.

This room is located in the K2 room on the other side of the MPR from the children’s ministry classroom. It will be identified by a sign on the door.

It's Not About A Big Fish

The Final Book In Our Minor Prophets Series

One particular and minor element of the book of Jonah has been what readers and students have myopically focused on for centuries in the church - the big fish. Everybody knows that Jonah was swallowed by a big fish. But once we realize that the book of Jonah is about so much more than a giant aquatic animal, we avail ourselves to riches from God’s Word that stand to transform how we view nonChristians, how we understand God’s mercy and more. This past Sunday, in the first message from chapter 1, we learned that no matter how undesirable obeying God’s Word is to you, you cannot flee from God’s presence. You can simply live joyfully or miserably in God’s presence.

Listen to the message here.

Read through the Book of Jonah

This next Sunday, we begin our final book in our series in the minor prophets - the book of Jonah. If you’ve read any of the minor prophets before, this is likely one of them that you’re familiar with. Many Sunday school lessons have been taught regarding this prophet and his encounter with a “big fish”. What we’ll discover as a church, though, is that there is a much bigger story at play; the book isn’t about a big fish.

In preparation for this book, take an hour or so and read through its four chapters a couple times. Consider even reading through it with your kids.

We’ve made a version without chapters, verses or headings for you to read through.

Picnic in the Promenade this Sunday

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 6 @ THE 2ND STREET PROMENADE

Oftentimes on Sundays, once we’re dismissed from the service, our time together has only just begun. We have a church full of people who love one another and love their neighbors. We want to provide ample outlets for that love.

This upcoming Sunday, we’ll all head over to the 2nd Street Promenade immediately after church to have lunch amongst our neighbors. Here are the details:

  • It’s “BYOL” (bring your own lunch). If you forget your lunch or your favorite Spiderman lunchbox isn’t clean, there are plenty of great restaurants right there. If possible, please make every effort to exercise frugality and bring a lunch from home.

  • It’s optional - but we highly encourage coming!

  • Bring some folding chairs - unless you like sitting on bricks, bring something to sit on; a blanket at least.

  • Expect the Lord to build existing relationships and create new ones with our neighbors

October First Friday Fast & Small Groups

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4

This year, we'll be spending the first Friday of every month fasting together and praying for a particular topic. Church members who fast for all 12 Fridays will be invited to a year-end party to celebrate the answers to our prayers. If fasting is new to you, here are some instructions.

This month, we’ll be praying for leaders in the church:

  • Pray for God to protect and preserve the leaders in our church - that their example of holiness might be a godly one before the members of the church and that they would remain above reproach

  • Pray that God would raise up new leaders from within our church with gifts of teaching, counseling, leadership, administration and others

  • Pray that God would give leaders in the church an enduring vision for our church and faith in the Lord alone for that vision

  • Pray that God would save men and women from our neighborhood who will one day be established as leaders in numerous different capacities
