Easter Sunday 2018

Listen To The Sermon Here

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is one of the most significant events in the history of mankind. Why? Because without a risen Jesus, not one person on earth could have any hope of life beyond the grave. This Easter Sunday, Sovereign Grace Church of Santa Ana celebrated that we have believed and been saved by a living Savior, who not only lives, but reigns, is coming back, stands as our assurance of new and everlasting life and will finally eradicate death from among His Creation. It was a joy to celebrate Easter together.

Listen to the sermon out of 1 Corinthians 15:12-34 to be reminded of these joy-inspiring truths.

Also, take a look at some pictures below of our first annual Easter Sunday.

April First Friday Fast

Friday, April 6

This year, we'll be spending the first Friday of every month. Church members who fast for all 12 Fridays (all 11 since we missed January) will be invited to a year-end party to celebrate the answers to our prayers. If fasting is new to you, here are some instructions.

This month, we'll be praying for God to be merciful toward those in our neighborhood who are experiencing the pain of suffering:

  • Those who are homeless
  • Those who are caught in the bonds of various forms of addiction
  • Those who are experiencing the injustice of racial oppression
  • Those who have chronic and painful illnesses
  • Those whose families have been broken by death, divorce, adultery
  • Those who are struggling for work or finances
  • Ay other form of suffering of anyone in DTSA you're aware of

We'll break the fast together at small group as we pray and ask God to use Sovereign Grace Church of Santa Ana to be stewards of His mercy toward those who are suffering.

Good Friday Together

Good Friday is good because God intended the death of Christ for Good. Everything else about His death was was anything but good; the injustice of executing an innocent man, the intent of the soldiers, the jews, Pilate and Herod. It was all sinful, but God intended it for good and thus, the greatest good this world has ever known, the creation of a way of salvation for sinners, was brought about. On Friday, March 30, we joined with two other DTSA church plants, Reunion Church and Emmaus Church, to celebrate the paradoxical, yet wonderful reality of God's goodness through Christ's suffering and death. This truth, combined with healthy church partnership and good coffee resulted in a Friday celebration that was indeed very, very good.

Check out more pictures from the service below.

Good Friday With DTSA Friends

Friday, March 30 @ 7:30pm

God is spreading the joy of Jesus in DTSA through Sovereign Grace Santa Ana. He's also doing it through other churches. This Friday, we have the privilege of partnering with two of them for a Good Friday service at Hidden House Coffee in the French Park neighborhood of DTSA. $2 coffee drinks will be sold from 7:00-7:30. Children are welcome, but childcare will not be provided.

We'll sing to the Jesus who suffered for us. We'll remember His sacrifice. All are welcome. Bring your fiends and expect to make some new friends.

The Violence of Christians Toward Sin

Be Killing Sin Or It Will Be Killing You

Listen To The Sermon Here

On Sunday, we continue our series in the book of Colossians with a sermon out of Colossians 3:5-11, where Paul reminds his readers that, having been raised with Christ, Christians must "put off" the sin that remains. However, he doesn't merely tell us to put it off; he tells us to kill it. Through this passage, God reminds us of His disposition toward sin and how magnificent Christ is in comparison to that sin.

See below for additional resources on the passage and on the subject.

Easter Morning Service At 10:30am

Invite Your DTSA Friends, Family and Neighbors

Jesus is risen from the grave. This is something that, as Christians, we can celebrate every day. In one sense, every day is Easter, but we also have the joy of devoting one Sunday every year to giving a particular focus to the reality that we have a living Savior.

While our regular meeting time is still 5:00pm on all other Sundays, on Easter Sunday, we'll be gathering in the morning at 10:30am. Come as early as 10:00am for coffee, doughnuts and friends. Spanish Bibles, outlines and other resources will be available to all spanish speaking guests.

We're Launching A Second Small Group

Deeper Fellowship. More Room For Newcomers

Since Sovereign Grace Church of Santa Ana launched, we've had one small group. We've gotten used to feeling like sardines crammed into one apartment with kids and all and we've loved it. But as God grows this church, we have the privilege of multiplying the number of small groups meeting throughout the week, which implies many different benefits for both newcomers and members. Beginning on Friday, April 6, a second group will be meeting at the Schlieder household in East Santa Ana/West Tustin and led by Christopher Erkelens.

Please pray with us that God would deepen our fellowship with one another and with Him through this change. Our hope is that the beauty of the unity the the Gospel creates would shine forth as this happens.

If Then You Have Been Raised With Christ ...

Listen To The Sermon Here

We had yet another opportunity to hear God's Word preached from one of our very own. We know him as a man who loves his wife and children and who loves his Savior. He also loves God's Word and his church and both came through on Sunday evening as Christopher Erkelens reminded us from Colossians 3:1-4 what sort of identity, mentality and destiny result from having been raised with Christ. It's worth the listen. We're grateful for men and women who step up and serve for the upbuilding of the Church.

DTSA Farmer's Market Every Sunday

Enjoy The Company Of Our DTSA Neighbors Sundays Before Church

Downtown Santa Ana recently re-launched its weekly Farmer's Market. The good news? It's four hours long. The even better news? It's a great place to spend your Sunday afternoon before church. The even better news? It's virtually across the street from church. The food is delicious, the smells are good and the vendors and neighbors are friendly. Come every Sunday or choose a Sunday every month to meander over to the 2nd Street Promenade.
