The ladies of CGSA are gathering for their annual Friendsgiving tomorrow, November 12 at the Schlieder home! Get ready to come together for food and fellowship in the spirit of thanksgiving to the Lord who’s blessed us so richly in Christ. It is potluck-style with traditional Thanksgiving food, so please plan to bring a dish, snack, or dessert to share. You’re welcome to bring along any friends or guests to join us as we spend the evening celebrating God’s goodness through our relationships and giving thanks to his name.

“Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things” - Ps 107:8-9

God Stepped into Israel’s Story

WILL HE STEP INTO OURS?

Every story has a hero, and every hero has an origin story. Exodus 2 is the origin story of Moses, the protagonist of Exodus. But while Moses is a hero who brings us into the unfolding events of the book and moves the plot along, he’s not the capital “H” Hero of Exodus. His story is significant, but it’s not the whole story. Because his story teaches us that in Exodus, the true Hero is God. Everything that Moses did to free his people from captivity happened because God himself was stepping into the story. Hearing his people’s cries, remembering his promises, seeing their suffering, knowing their groaning under the awful weight of slavery, and then doing something about it. God stepped into Israel’s story back then, but do we believe he’ll step into our stories today? If you’re doubting whether he hears your cries, wonder if he cares about what you’re going through, or he seems distant to you, then look to the story of Moses and be encouraged. Because this hero ultimately points us forward to the Hero named Jesus. The Savior through whom God has stepped into our stories to change them forever.

The Bad News is Bad

BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS GREATER

The opening chapter of Exodus is given to us for scale. The gospel is big. But to accurately take in the scope of God's gracious accomplishment, we need something to compare it to. Ex 1:8-22 sets the bigness of the gospel side by side with the badness of sin. Israel lived under the awful shadow of slavery and death. Apart from the rescuing work of Christ, this is the true state of our souls. Captive to sin, heading toward death, with nothing we can do to free ourselves. When we’re truly affected by the badness of this bad news, we can truly appreciate the goodness of the gospel. The good news that God spared the lives of the Hebrew sons back then. The even better news that in the fullness of time God sent his only Son to die.

Prayer Meeting This Saturday

AT THE WARM’S HOME AT 9AM

This Saturday, from 9am-11:30am, Cordell & Marina Warm are graciously opening their home to host another monthly prayer meeting. All are welcome to join as we pray for the needs of our church, the good of our neighbors, and ask God to bring revival in our city.

As you prepare your hearts for the prayer meeting. Here are some verses to pray through and reflect upon:

  • Joel 2:28-32

  • Micah 7:18-20

  • 1 Corinthians 12:4-11

  • 1 Peter 4:10

15 For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, 16 I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, 17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, 18 having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. 22 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church,23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.” - Ephesians 1:15-23

Christ the True and Better

SING THE STORY OF STORIES THIS SUNDAY

Christ’s story is THE story. The story that every story with any ounce of anything good, beautiful, or true echoes. The story that Exodus and every other Old Testament story anticipates. The story that makes sense of our own stories. The story we’ll be celebrating forever and ever.

This Sunday, we’re introducing a new song that will lead us in lifting high the name of Jesus and living in the goodness of his finished work. Christ the True and Better by Matt Boswell & Matt Papa. Listen to the song, read the lyrics, and come ready to sing of our great Savior this Sunday.

VERSE 1

Christ the true and better Adam
Son of God and Son of man
Who, when tempted in the garden
Never yielded, never sinned
He who makes the many righteous
Brings us back to life again
Dying, He reversed the curse
Then rising, crushed the serpent's head

VERSE 2

Christ the true and better Isaac
Humble Son of sacrifice
Who would climb the fearful mountain
There to offer up His life
Laid with faith upon the altar
Father's joy and only Son
There salvation was provided
Oh, what full and boundless love

CHORUS

Amen, amen
From beginning to end
Christ the story, His the glory
Alleluia, amen

VERSE 3

Christ the true and better Moses
Called to lead a people home
Standing bold to earthly powers
God's great glory to be known
With his arms stretched wide to heaven
See the waters part in two
See the veil is torn forever
Cleansed with blood we pass now through

VERSE 4

Christ the true and better David
Lowly shepherd, mighty King
He, the champion in the battle
Where, O death, is now thy sting?
In our place He bled and conquered
Crown Him Lord of majesty
His shall be the throne forever
We shall e'er His people be
