Sign Up for Our 2020 Fall Class

CHURCH HISTORY - A CLASS TO TEACH US THAT THESE ARE NOT UNPRECEDENTED TIMES

Our 2020 Fall class starts on Monday September 14th. This year’s Fall Class centers on the history and timeless traits of the Church. The format will be 6 class sessions every other week (2nd and 4th Mondays of September, October and November) at 7:00pm via Zoom. Why Zoom? More than anything, because we want as many people possible in our church to be able to participate.

CHILDCARE WON’T BE A HINDRANCE TO PARTICIPATING. WE ENCOURAGE EVERY MEMBER TO REGISTER FOR THIS IMPORTANT CLASS

The usual attendance cap will not be in place. Men and women, English and Spanish speakers alike may join. This class will be a chance for each of us to become acquainted with the controversies of the past that reflect those of today, and how they were resolved; a chance to meet the men and women who stood as pillars of faith in Christ during adversity; a chance to see the depth and sturdiness of the foundation which has been laid under our local church.

REGISTER AND BUY THE BOOK TODAY

In preparation for the class we ask that you purchase a copy of Christian History Made Easy by Timothy Paul Jones. If you are unable to purchase the book due to financial constraints, please send us an email and we will be happy to help you.

Gospel-Shaped Rhythms

After Peter preached the sermon at Pentecost, 3,000 people were saved. These 3,000 people were the first converts of the New Testament church. Luke, the author of Acts, immediately transitions to answer the question, “what were the characteristics and priorities of this first New Testament Church?”. In Acts 2:42-47, we find the essential rhythms of this early church. And because these rhythms are formed and shaped by the timeless Gospel, they reflect the timeless rhythms of the church and stand as a model for the rhythms that should be reflected in the local church of today. Take a listen to the sermon to learn more.

How to Pray for Your Bothers & Sisters this Week

PRAY WITHOUT CEASING

Keep sending us your prayer requests. We’ll keep sharing them (anonymously) and share other suggestions for how you can be praying during the week. It’s important to know how to pray for one another and to ask the Lord to guide us, sustain us and encourage us each individually in this season.

  1. Pray for the message of Jesus to pervade the local and national discussion on race and create reconciliation.

  2. Pray that as the local church, our community would see a kind of unity between people of different ethnicities not seen anywhere else in our society.

  3. Pray for those continuing to experience financial hardship in the midst of a slow economy.

  4. Pray for parents and children who are working to make remote school as effective as possible.

  5. Pray for the Lord to continue to work through our preaching series in Acts.

  6. Pray that God would give us opportunities to preach the Gospel to our neighbors and that He would mercifully save them.

  7. Pray that God would bless the Ebell Club and the personnel who manage it and have served us well for these past few months.

  8. Pray for those in seasons of transition.

  9. Pray for the requests of individuals who have shared them on our church Slack prayer channel. If you have questions about how to be added to this, email office@sovgracesantaana.org

KEEP SENDING PRAYER REQUESTS TO PRAYERS@SOVGRACESANTAANA.ORG.

The First Sermon In The History of The Church

On the day of Pentecost after Jesus ascended, the Holy Spirit fell on the Apostles fulfilling a prophecy from Joel 2 from hundreds of years before. Right after that, Peter preached the first sermon in the history of the Church - to a crowd of thousands upon thousands. This sermon gives us a glimpse into what God sent the Spirit, in part to do - which was to illuminate and guard the truth of the Gospel. This ministry of the Spirit has been passed down to us, giving us assurance the the message we know and hear and preach is the True message of the Gospel. Listen to this past week’s sermon from Acts 2:1-41.

Listen to this week’s sermon here.
