We are Celebrating Our Risen Savior on Sunday

A Sunday To Tell Our Neighbors About Our Living Hope

Easter Sunday comes around once every year. It’s an opportunity to get dressed up more than usual. It’s an opportunity to see everything in pastel colors. It’s an opportunity to focus on and celebrate a particular element of the Gospel. It’s also an opportunity to engage with, meet and love our neighbors in a way that we rarely have the opportunity to do. Church attendance on Easter Sunday typically increases dramatically around America. What does this mean for Sovereign Grace Church of Santa Ana? It just means we have another chance to spread the joy of Jesus in Downtown Santa Ana.

If you’re serving this Sunday, please make it a priority to come early. We’ll be having an Easter egg hunt for the kiddos and serving pan dulce and tamales at 10:00am. This means that all other setup and rehearsal needs to be 100% completed by 10:00am. Even if you’re not scheduled for setup team, please consider showing up early to assist with setup so that we can be best positioned to meet and serve our neighbors … and spread the joy of a LIVING Jesus.

A Refreshing Time Away: 2019 Women's Retreat

We Treasure The Women Among Us

Last Thursday, Friday and Saturday, women from Sovereign Grace Church of Santa Ana and Sovereign Grace Church of Orange gathered together in the mountains of Wrightwood, California to sit under Biblical teaching, commune with God and spend some undistracted time in one another’s company. It’s important that the women among us have times like this to step away from the daily routine and “retreat” to be alone with God.

These times are special and valuable. They’re even better when we get to do them in partnership with those with love from our sister church in Orange. Praise God for His work in and through this year’s women’s retreat and for the women He put in place to plan and execute it!

The Message That's Despised, Yet Defines

The Word of the Cross Is Foolish, Weak and For Those Who Are Nothing Special

This past Sunday, our very own Jeff Schlieder stood behind the pulpit and preached the “Word of the Cross” from 1 Corinthians 1:18-31. He reminded us that the Word of the cross that defines us as Christians is despised by an unbelieving world. And it makes sense why: because it appears foolish, it appears to center on a weak person and is meant for people who are unremarkable in every way.

The Word of the Cross, However, Is God’s Supreme Demonstration of Wisdom and Power

Yet, the Word of the cross is where God’s wisdom is displayed most clearly, His power is shown most poignantly and where insignificant sinners find identity, belonging and worth. If you haven’t yet, sit down with a pen and a journal and listen to the message. it will be worth you time.

Men's Meeting Thursday

4th Street Market. Front Patio @ 7:00pm

If you’re a man, high school-aged or older, clear out your schedule Thursday evening to join us for our monthly men’s meeting. It’s a unique opportunity for men to talk like men about God. Bring anybody you know who might be interested in joining.

If your wife is on the women’s retreat and you’ve got the kids, find a babysitter for the evening. If you can’t find a babysitter, bring the kids along. This meeting is too valuable to miss.

Who Can You Invite To Our Easter Service?

Every Sunday is Easter Sunday. Why? Because Jesus is risen and that’s ALWAYS true! But as Christians, it’s a joy to set apart a particular day to place a little extra focus on this component of the Gospel message. It’s also a holiday (Pascua) that’s traditionally significant to our Spanish-speaking neighbors.

Refreshments and Kids Activity at 10:00am

Service at 10:30am

There will be an activity for children prior to the service. There will be light refreshments available. Invite your friends, family and neighbors and let’s celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

Abide in Jesus

“Staying” In Jesus Is The Key To The Christian Life

John 15 contains a word that isn’t used very often in today’s English language. Yet Jesus uses this word as a summary instruction for how to live in His absence. The word is abide. To help His disciples understand what it means to abide, He used compelling imagery - imagery of a life-filled vine and branches that are wholly dependent on that vine for anything, especially bearing fruit. At the end of the discussion, while we might be tempted to believe that “abiding” is some special spiritual technique, to abide is to simply “stay”. The simple discipline of staying is the single most important, yet most difficult discipline of the Christian life.

On Sunday, pastor Kyle identified 8 of life’s greatest needs from John 15 for which abiding in Christ is the key. If he was going too fast and you didn’t catch them all, here they are again:

  1. The Key To Connection (vv. 3, 4a)

  2. The Key To Fruitfulness (vv. 4b-7)

  3. The Key To Joy (v. 11)

  4. The Key To Love (vv. 9-10; 12-15)

  5. The Key To Identity (vv. 8, 16)

  6. The Key To Purpose (vv. 16-17)

  7. The Key To Security (vv. 18-25)

  8. The Key To Witness (vv. 26-27)

Pray for the 2019 Women's Retreat

The Women’s Retreat Is Finally Here

This Thursday, a number of women from Sovereign Grace Church of Santa Ana will be joining the women of Sovereign Grace Church of Orange in Wrightwood, California. They’ll be spending two and a half days drawing near to Jesus and one another.

Please pray for each of them - that God would grow them as Christian women, mothers, wives, sisters, daughters and friends. For many of the women of our church, it’s a rarity that time is spent away from work, kids, etc. If you’re going on the retreat, we’re hoping the time is a blessing to you!
