We Are Members, One of Another

On Sunday, January 27, Sovereign Grace Church of Santa Ana officially introduced its first new members. It was probably the largest class of new members we’ll introduce in the near future, simply because nearly everybody was a new member!

We practice church membership because we believe church membership is biblical. Church members are those with whom we practice the “one another”. They are those that we have committed to in the local church. They are those that we can be assured are committed to our growth in Christ. Church members are those whom pastors are accountable to lead and care for. Church membership is for the good of the church and the individual Christian.

Picnic In The Promenade This Sunday

Bring Your Lunch and a Chair

This Sunday, take the opportunity to eat lunch with your DTSA neighbors. Immediately after the service, we’ll be walking over to the 2nd Street Promenade to eat lunch and enjoy one another’ company while in the midst of the neighborhood God has placed us in.

If you’re concerned about being late to your Super Bowl party, the big game doesn’t start until 3:30, so you’ll have plenty of time. For questions, contact Kyle@sovgraceoc.org.

When Our Hearts Correspond To Jesus' Worth

There Is No Limit To The Love You’re Allowed To Show For Jesus

Mary poured $26,000 worth of oil on the feet of Jesus. Was this display of love too extravagant? Judas seemed to think so. Jesus, however, stopped Judas in his tracks and commended Mary for her actions. How much love should we demonstrate to Jesus in our lives? How worthwhile is He of our love in concrete terms? Listen to last week’s sermon from John 12:1-12.

(Plus, apparently, last Sunday was also red shirts and jeans day. Sorry to those who missed the memo)

It's Official

An Independent Congregation In Downtown Santa Ana

Sovereign Grace Church of Santa Ana has been meeting for 15 months. We’ve been having small groups every tow weeks, monthly mens and women’s meetings, have had a preachers club and baptized people. It’s felt and looked like a church all along.

But up until this past Sunday, we were still dependent on Sovereign Grace Church of Orange - we were technically a ministry or a campus of another church. Now, the umbilical cord has been cut and the senior pastors from Sovereign Grace Orange and Pasadena came down to help us celebrate. The service was followed by a Santa Ana style party - carne aside, frijoles, arroz and, of course, a piñata for the little ones.

God has built and is continuing to build this church for His glory and the spread of the joy of Jesus in Downtown Santa Ana.

Jesus Is Worth It

Whatever Your “It” Is

This past Sunday, we had the joy of hosting Eric Turbedsky, senior pastor of Sovereign Grace Church of Orange. He preached from Matthew 13:44. One verse. One short parable. One simple concept: Jesus is worth it. Like the man who sold everything to purchase the treasure he found in a field, so it is our joy to give everything not to get, but because we’ve already found and have the greatest treasure this world has ever known.

Inaugural Service This Sunday!

Our Inaugural Service As An Independent Sovereign Grace Church

On Sunday, January 20, we have the joy of celebrating God’s grace in yet another huge step of growth for Sovereign Grace Santa Ana - becoming an official and independent Sovereign Grace Church. No longer a small group of people with a dream to one day become a church. No longer a campus of Sovereign Grace Church of Orange.

Eric Turbedsky, senior pastor in Orange, and Ron Boomsma, senior pastor of Sovereign Grace Pasadena, will both be coming down to celebrate and officiate the momentous service with us.

A Barbecue After The Service In Front of the School

Plan on staying after for a barbecue out in front of Heninger Elementary to commemorate the day. Carne Asada, beans, rice, tortillas, chips and salsa. Jim Cunningham will be on the grill, so you know it’ll be good. There will be a piñata for the kids.

No need to bring anything but a folding chair.

God Beats Evil At Its Own Game

You Can’t Make This Stuff Up

God uses sin to beat sin by substituting the sinless in the place of the sinner. Oftentimes in the world around us, it looks like sin is winning. Yet, John 11:45-57 teaches us that sin has no power over God’s purposes. What appears to be the most evil, sinful words ever spoken were in fact words that God used to carry out the death of His Son, which in turn accomplished the defeat of sin. In sin’s most evil moment, God made sin commit its own suicide. While sin may appear to be thwarting God’s purposes in the world around you and within your heart, God’s purposes will always prevail.
