The Covenant Ceremony

EXODUS 24:1-18

In Exodus 24 the action of the story resumes. God has been speaking and revealing who he is and what life with him will be like for the past 4 chapters. But now it’s time for Israel to respond. To seal the deal on their special relationship with God. To make it official. This is done through a solemn ceremony that most resembles a wedding. It’s got an altar, vows, and a special symbol which represents the union. And it shows us that the kind of relationship God wants with us calls for the kind of devotion and commitment we find in marriage. A formal, serious, and all-in relationship. And while it’s true that we can be afraid of commitment, God is not. Because the same God who calls for all of us gives us all of him. Through the story of Exodus and gospel of Jesus, we’re invited us to draw near to the God who will never be done with us. To be happily wedded to the Savior who will never withdraw his love.

Unify Santa Ana

A NIGHT OF WORSHIP & PRAYER

On August 28, we’re gathering together with other local churches in our city to worship God and pray for revival. We’ll share in the joy of Jesus together and be freshly fueled to spread it all throughout Santa Ana. We’ll fellowship with other believers. We’ll ask for Christ’s prayer to be realized in us, “that they may all be one…so that the world may believe that you have sent me” (Jn 17:21).

Find the event flyer here. Invite your friends. Reach out to Pastor Jeff if you’d like to be involved with the music.

The Covenant Promise

EXODUS 23:20-33

The Book of the Covenant ends with a promise. A promise that God would give his people a place to live out their special relationship with him. To bring them into the land he'd long ago promised Abraham. A land that would be a new sort of Eden. A land to plant this fledgling nation. A land out of which he'd one day bring a blessing that would extend to all nations. But in order for them to enter in, they'd have to be ready for a fight. Yet, just as we saw in the victory over Egypt, the battle belongs to the Lord. Even more, this battle back then has everything to do with our fight of faith here and now. Because we, like Israel, are also on our way to a promised land.

“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Eph 3:14-19)

Sign-up to be Baptized

BAPTISM SUNDAY, AUGUST 23

Join us at the Lee home immediately after church on Sunday, 8/23 to celebrate the baptism of new believers and enjoy a hotdog lunch.

WHAT IS BAPTISM?

Baptism marks the beginning of the Christian life. It’s that moment in which we confess with our mouth what we’ve believed in our hearts. Standing in the presence of God and his people to profess our faith in the sacrificial death and victorious resurrection of Jesus. Signifying our personal share in his dying and rising as we’re immersed into the water and buried with Christ and then raised up with him to walk in newness of life.

If you are interested in being baptized, have questions about baptism, or want to place your faith in Jesus, talk to a member of the pastoral team. They’d be happy to help you take the first step of the Christian life.

Lopez Send-Off Sunday

OUR FIRST EVER PC FAMILY

Sunday was a big day. We commissioned the Lopez family for the next chapter of life and ministry: a year in Louisville, KY at the Sovereign Grace Pastors College. A time of being equipped by God’s word through God’s people to come back and serve us in yet greater ways.

We said a temporary “goodbye” believing it would lead to many more gospel “hellos” here in Santa Ana. We honored dear friends. We shared sweet memories and shed a few tears. We thanked God for his great grace. We entrusted him with the future of this family and our church. And we sent the Lopezs out in faith. Because we believe Jesus is in this and we can’t wait to see what he does next. As he works in this family, prepares a man for pastoral ministry, and uses the investment of a year away to bless our church for years and years to come.

Enjoy a few snapshots of this significant moment in our life together. Thank God for all the grace he’s given us through the Lopezs. Then look to the future expectant that he’s got even more grace to give.

Who's Going on the Great Commission?

MATTHEW 28:16-20

On Sunday, Pastoral Intern Robert Lopez preached the gospel to us one more time before heading off to Pastors College. His parting words were the same the Lord Jesus left with his disciples in Mt 28:16-20. And what the Risen Christ left to them was - and remains - the most extraordinary mission that's ever been given! As he prepared to ascend to heaven, he gave them the task of advancing his Kingdom all across the earth. Making disciples of all people everywhere. Welcoming the world into the goodness of his saving reign and then teaching them how to walk in his righteous ways. And, what’s so amazing about it all, is that he chose the people he did to do it. People like the denying and doubting disciples back then. Ordinary, unimpressive, and struggling people like us now. Yet, far from this overwhelming or discouraging us, it actually brings us hope. Because the success of the Great Commission doesn’t ultimately depend on us. It depends on the Savior who saved us, sent us, and promised always to be with us. He will give us all we need. He will get the job done.
