Serve With the Bridge Course

A CLASS BY OUR CHURCH FOR OUR NEIGHBORS

Our mission is to spread the joy of Jesus to our Santa Ana neighbors. One of the ways we advance this mission is through The Bridge Course. A class we offer each fall that creates a context to invite our neighbors who are skeptical, seeking, unsure of what they believe, or are brand new to the Christian faith to come and have honest conversations about the most important questions in life.

HOW YOU CAN PARTICIPATE

Though this class is primarily for our neighbors, we’ll need plenty of help from our church! In addition to inviting your friends and neighbors, you can volunteer to offer hospitality, set up and clean up, or help facilitate group discussion.

  • Hospitality - Providing dinner and dessert for approximately 15-20 people (though attendance is subject to change). We’ll provide the drinks, plates, napkins, and plasticware.

  • Set-Up / Tear-Down - Help us to arrange tables and chairs, set out the food, and clean up the location at the end of the night. As you do, you’ll stick around and join us for the course. So invite a friend and sit with them!

  • Discussion Leaders - During Bridge, we break up into smaller groups of 4-8. Each group needs a Discussion Leader and Assistant to help facilitate the conversation and foster relationship building. Interested in leading? Get started by watching the leader’s training video here to learn more about how it’s done.

Fight the Good Fight

STAY IN THE BATTLE UNTIL CHRIST RETURNS

Paul makes his final charge to Timothy. Calling that “man of God,” back then, and all men and women of God, since, not to coast through the Christian life. Not to let our guards down. But to live like there’s a battle raging all around us. Fleeing from sin and pursuing godliness. Fighting to keep the faith. Faithfully following after Christ even in the presence of real danger or fear. And more than anything else, fearing God - not man. Trusting that “blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see,” who is worthy of all “honor and dominion” can keep us safe until the end (1 Tim 6:15-16).

We’re Singing a New Song on Sunday

CONFESSING CHRIST AS OUR GREATEST TREASURE

This Sunday we’re introducing a new song that confesses our worth, security, and hope are not found in what we own, but in that Christ has made us his own. Listen to My Worth is Not in What I Own by Keith and Kristyn Getty, read the lyrics below, and come ready to sing the Savior’s matchless worth.

My worth is not in what I own
Not in the strength of flesh and bone
But in the costly wounds of love
At the cross

My worth is not in skill or name
In win or lose, in pride or shame
But in the blood of Christ that flowed
At the cross

I rejoice in my Redeemer
Greatest treasure, wellspring of my soul
I will trust in Him, no other
My soul is satisfied in Him alone

As summer flowers, we fade and die
Fame, youth, and beauty hurry by
But life eternal calls to us
At the cross

I will not boast in wealth or might
Or human wisdom's fleeting light
But I will boast in knowing Christ
At the cross

Two wonders here that I confess
My worth and my unworthiness
My value fixed, my ransom paid
At the cross

Festival of Nations Is Coming!

A CELEBRATION OF OUR UNITY IN CHRIST IN THE MIDST OF OUR DIVERSITY

Save the date! On Sunday, September 14th, we’ll be hosting our annual “Festival of Nations” celebration. Coinciding with Fiestas Patrias and Dia De La Independencia, we want to celebrate what God has built in our church through the gospel - the gathering of people from all different tribes, nations, and tongues into one new family in Christ.

HOW CAN YOU PREPARE?

  1. Bring a dish (entree, dessert or side) representing your culture, upbringing, or national heritage. Bring your best effort. The results will be judged and the “Best In The World” award will be given to the individual whose dish impressed the most. Multiple dishes per family are ok! Kids are welcome to join in the competition as well!

  2. Join us at 4pm on Sunday, September 14th in the Schlieder backyard.

Spend Your Life Treasuring Christ

HOW THE GOSPEL SHAPES OUR VIEW OF WEALTH

The false teachers in Ephesus were motivated by a love of money. “Imagining that godliness is a means of gain” they pursued leadership in the church and made Christ a means to their selfish ends. We can also treat Christ like a means to an end and live our lives in the pursuit of wealth. Coveting what we don’t have. Grumbling or complaining for more. Fearfully and anxiously trying to get more. But God’s word teaches us that treasuring Christ is the best way to spend our lives. That this life is not about getting more money, but about giving as much as we can to spreading the glory of Christ. Investing our temporary treasure in things that will matter forever. And being content - whatever we do or don’t have - because we have Christ. Jesus himself is the greatest treasure we could ever possess. The One who keeps us more secure than all the wealth in the world. Who won’t fail to give us all we need to serve him now and then celebrate the immeasurable riches of his grace for days without end.
