Cross of Grace Santa Ana has five new deacons - shock absorbers, qualified according to 1 Timothy 3:8-13, who demonstrate model servanthood before their church family and who free up our elders to prioritize prayer and the ministry of the word.
Praise God with us for Daniel Lee, Fernando Madrigal, Peter Robles, Truman Severson, and Jennifer Williams!
In the church, God has purposed to extend his shepherding care to his people through his people. To perform this work, he's appointed pastors as a gracious gift for his people. But 1 Timothy 3:8-13 teaches us that they're not the only gift that he has to give. Pastors cannot do it alone. In the building project that is the church, he enlists special servants called deacons to support the ministry of pastors, strengthen the life and unity of the body, and meet the needs of members in tangible ways. Our Chief Shepherd's "earthly ministry was mighty in both word and deed (cf. Luke 24:19), and he continues this two-pronged approach [in the church] today in large part through the offices of elder and deacon. As elders serve with words and deacons serve with deeds, Christ’s holistic ministry carries on" (Matt Smethurst).
This week, 4 groups will meet throughout our city to share in the joy of Jesus and apply his gospel to each other’s lives. Outside of Sunday mornings, small groups are the most important moments in the life of our church. Make it a priority to attend one this week.
Several weeks ago we asked for your feedback as we put forward a group of members we’ve been assessing and equipping to serve in the office of deacon. We called upon you to look at 1 Tim 3:8-13 and then look at the lives of Daniel Lee, Fernando Madrigal, Peter Robles, Truman Severson, and Jennifer Williams. You responded with a resounding, “Yes! They look like deacons to us!”
You affirmed them. Your pastors commend them. This Sunday we’ll install them. Get ready to celebrate as we receive the gift of these new deacons and commission them for service this weekend.
Don’t miss out on our bi-annual Members’ Meeting! This Sunday, stick around for about 30 minutes right after the service. We’ll take the time to communicate important updates in the life of our church and look forward to where we believe the Lord is taking us. Come eager to hear what God is up to at Cross of Grace.
Our Block Party is about 3 weeks away! You can participate in the following ways:
Joining the neighborhood outreach Saturday, June 21st from 10am-12pm. Meet at the Hidden House parking lot and come invite our neighbors to party with us!
Pick up print flyers from church this Sunday and spread the word to your neighbors and throughout the community.
Sharing the digital flyer located here with Santa Ana neighbors in via social media.
Sign up to volunteer at the Block Party here.

This Sunday, we recognized and prayed over 8 young people who are transitioning from one chapter of life and learning to the next. Moving up to new grade levels, new Children’s Ministry classes, and new participation in our CGSA Youth Group. We’re grateful for God’s grace in their lives and excited to see how he works in and through them in this next season.
God has blessed our church with the gift of many children! Would he empower our parents to raise them up, position his church to come alongside, and prepare the next generation of men and women who will carry on our mission.
It’s our ambition that Cross of Grace Church would be a church that sings the song of Ps 145. One in which “one generation shall commend” the mighty works of God “to another.” Speaking of his “might” and “awesome deeds.” Declaring his “glorious splendor” and celebrating the “greatness” of his grace. So that the “fame” of his ‘abundant goodness” would continue to “pour forth” from our mouths, in our homes, on the lips of the next generation, and out into our city for years to come (Ps 145:4-7).
