You Do Not Want to Be God's Enemy

As we concluded our time in the book of Joel, we came across Joel chapter 3 - one of the most sobering passaged you can read in the Bible. This chapter confronts you with the reality that God will judge all sin and evil once and for all. And it will be worse than you can imagine. However, until that day, there is still hope for His mercy through the message of His Son. This terrible reality should cause us as Christians to respond - not by shying away from the truth of God’s judgment, but by allowing it to motivate us to be conduits of God’s mercy to our Santa Ana neighbors.

Our First Member's Meeting is on September 8th

Immediately After Church

Beginning on September 8, we’ll begin hosting twice-annual members meetings. These meetings will always fall on a Sunday and will take place immediately after church at our Sunday meeting location. What’s different about these meetings? Church member meetings are moments in the life of the church when we evaluate what the Lord has done in the past 6 months and look forward with faith toward what we believe the Lord will do among us and through us in our neighborhood. We celebrate what He’s doing. We pray for what we hope that He’ll do.

There Will Be Lunch Available For All For A very Small Fee

We understand that after church, stomachs are grumbling and lunch is the logical next step. A lunch that’s friendly to dietary restrictions will be provided at a small cost. No more than $3 per person. We’ll try to keep the meeting under an hour to respect your time.

A Meeting For Members, But Guests Are Welcome

Finally, all members of the church are expected to attend these meetings. Given the occasional nature of these meetings and the importance of the topics discussed, we appreciate you prioritizing this meeting. All guests and non-members are welcome to attend as well, however, for anyone who’s interested in hearing about how God is working in and through Sovereign Grace Santa Ana.

Listen to Our Spotify Playlist

Become Familiar With All Of The Songs We Sing On Sunday

Mike Alvarez, our gifted worship leader, has generously given his time to create a Spotify playlist complete with the entire repertoire of songs we’ll be singing as a church for at least the next 6 months. Why spend time listening to this playlist? Because they’re good, theologically rich songs that remind you of the Gospel, teach you God’s truth, give articulation to the joy God has created in your heart and inform your prayers. Furthermore, listening to this playlist will make you familiar with the songs that we sing together. Listen to these songs. Fill your heart with God’s Truth. And on Sunday’s let’s sing loud enough for our neighbors to hear.

Check out our playlist here.

God's Mercy: Priceless

Money Can’t Buy What God’s Mercy Gives

In last week’s sermon from Joel 2:18-32, the tone of the book of Joel changes abruptly from a call to repentance to a sudden announcement of future blessing and restoration in verse 18. What we might expect to precede verse 18 is evidence of Judah’s repentance, but there is none. The second half of Joel 2 teaches us that God’s mercy is not something that’s earned. Also, it’s so valuable, it cannot be bought. Are you trying to earn God’s mercy? Are you in any way trying to achieve what His mercy gives on your own? Listen to last week’s sermon to discover the wonder of God’s incredible mercy.

Welcome to Our Newest Members

What is church membership?

Paul says in Ephesians 4:25 that we are one body, yet “members one of another”. So, think of church membership not so much as “membership in a club” and more as an expression of commitment to the people around you. The Bible is full of “one anothers” - commands toward believers to act in godliness toward other people. What Scripture makes clear is that these “others” refer to a specific group of people and not all people generally. These others are the men and women identified in a particular local church. As members of Sovereign Grace Church of Santa Ana, we have the privilege of living out the Christian life with one another. We celebrate and grieve with one another. We build deep relationship with one another. We join arms to advance the joy of Jesus in a particular neighborhood with one another. We help one another pursue holiness. We remind one another of the sweetness of the Gospel.

In light of this, we praise God for the new members, Peter, Luci and Emilio, we had the joy of introducing this last Sunday. We look forward to joining you in the spread of the joy of Jesus in Downtown Santa Ana.
